Is This The End Of Winston?
Friday, August 29th, 2008In the past it would have been a brave move to count Peters out but now both his career and his legacy are in the balance. Between the press, the PM, the Privileges Committee, the SFO, and the rumplestiltskinite bloggers, Peters is in an untenable position.
John Key may be lauded in the mainstream media for his supposed rejection of Peters but as some have pointed out this only came once it seemed Likely that Winston would be a non-entity after the coming election. If by any chance Winston does get to play kingmaker again come November we may see some uncomfortable moments from the “brave” Mr Key.
The Prime Minister’s revelation that Owen Glenn had informed her about his donation to Mr Peters court costs has piqued the interest of many of those on the right with cat-calls of corruption and resign. Whether or not it was intended so it can’t escape ones notice that Clark’s statement came on the same day as the SFO announced that it would enquire into aspects of NZ Firsts financial arrangements. The investigations at this time will not cover Mr Peters relationship with Mr Glenn nor allegation made against Mr Peters involvement with Primary Production Select Committee but will focus on the donations made by Sir Robert Jones and the Vela family. At the moment the Glenn circus is the least of Winston’s worries.
