What Are Their Intentions?
Friday, August 15th, 2008Proud2bleft: The recent announcement by National of its plans to introduce welfare
reform to the Domestic Purposes Benefit, should it win the election later this year, is an interesting, if not slightly controversial one. As someone who grew up in a solo parent household during the tenuous era
of the last round of National welfare reforms, I cant help wonder if the Prime Minister is right and we are in for another round of benefit cuts similar to those introduced in the now infamous ‘Mother of All Budgets’
by Finance Minister Ruth Richardson.
With National’s ambiguous stance towards policy combined with rumours and gaffes from inside the party of secret agendas to reinstate the neo-liberalist polices of the 1980s and 1990s, it is easy to see why the
Labour Party remains sceptical about Nationals welfare intentions.
